The Study offers a comprehensive instrumental music program that features woodwind, percussion and brass instruments as well as the bass guitar.
Classes begin in Cycle 3 of the Elementary School and continue as options in the Senior School all the way to Grade 11. In Grades 10 and 11 a jazz band course is the featured option.
Students perform at various assemblies and concerts during the school year, culminating in the Celebration of the Arts concert in May.
There is also a vibrant Concert Band composed of girls from grades seven to eleven. This group rehearses after school on Friday afternoons.
In 2006 the Concert Band performed at the Heritage Music Festival in Boston, where they received a Silver and a Bronze rating and were also given the Spirit of Boston Award.
In 2007 the Concert Band traveled to New York City in the spring to perform at the Heritage Music Festival.
Kindergarten students have regular classes with a technology specialist in the Multi- Media Lab. Using various tools, including MicroWorlds Project Builder and other software applications, they are introduced to the computer through age-appropriate projects that are linked to their classroom work. Computers are also available to the students in their classroom.
