The Study’s two counselors help students weather childhood and adolescence, by assisting them and supporting their teachers and parents, either individually or in a group.
Learning Specialists
The Study’s English and French Learning Specialists work with students and consult with parents regarding any academic or learning concerns they may have about their daughter. The Learning Specialists also serve as valuable resources for teachers in addressing students’ different learning styles and skills.
Academic Guidance
One of the valuable things that Study girls learn is that they can achieve whatever they want in life. During their time in the Senior School students learn about some of the exciting careers they can pursue when they graduate and get help with planning their post-Study education.
Career Guidance
During the annual Grade 11 Career Shadowing day, students gain firsthand knowledge about a career that interests them. There is also a Career Day, when representatives from various professions speak to students about the ins and outs of their careers and the courses they should take if they are interested in pursuing a similar path. Students with questions about a particular career can speak with the Study’s Academic Advisor, who in many cases will put them in touch with the network of adults (parents, alumnae and other school connections) who can provide them information and advice on various careers.
College Counseling
In their final year, students work closely with the Academic Advisor to plan for the next stage of their education. Students attend CEGEP and College Information Evenings in the fall. They also have access to up-to-date information in calendars, catalogues and brochures from a wide spectrum of private schools, colleges and universities and with help from the Academic Advisor they narrow their choices and prepare their applications. Secondary 4 students write the PSAT exam in October and those who wish may write the SAT in the spring of their graduating year.
