Study parent to Jeanne Olivier in Grade 5, Ms. Isabelle Marcoux, Vice Chair of the Board and Vice President, Corporate Development, Transcontinental Inc. addressed The Study’s Senior School as the keynote speaker at The Study’s Career Day on December 6th.

“Career Day has been running for over 20 years. It’s a wonderful opportunity to show the students what kind of options are available to them,” says Lise Anderson, Academic Advisor, French Teacher, and organizer of Career Day.

Jeanne and the Senior School listened to her mother speak about her experience at Transcontinental, her educational background and balancing work and family.

Ms. Marcoux’s advice was pertinent: “Be true to yourself when making decisions and get involved with your community. You are great young women, you will become the sum of your parts which are your family, your education and your experience.”

Each of the Grade 9 to 11 students picked three of the 16 career representatives and attended his or her 60-minute session. Speakers represented various careers including: Dog Trainer, Engineer, Fashion Designer and Lawyer to name but a few.

Ms. Mary Ann Farley, mother of Jessica Magonet (‘09) spoke about her experience as a teacher, producer, director, program developer and project manager for several multimedia organizations. Ms Farley is a graduate of McGill University and Harvard University.

Study graduate, Nadia Niro (’97) described her route to becoming part owner of Galerie Orange in Old Montreal. After graduating from The Study she pursued a Bachelors in Arts at Queen’s University in Kingston. She spent her third year studying abroad at the Queen’s castle in East Sussex. She did her Master’s degree in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London and interned at the infamous Gagosian Gallery.

A more recent graduate, Jenny Schade (’02) spoke to the students about being a promising artist. Jenny completed her DEC in Fine Arts at Dawson College and is currently completing her Bachelors of Fine Arts. She has already had several solo and group exhibitions, has illustrated a book and has done many commissions.

Mr. François Richard, father of Geneviève (‘08) and Isabelle (‘09) described his experience as an Investor and Financial consultant. His formidable credentials include an MBA from INSEAD, France.

It was a stimulating day that presented limitless possibilities.
